"Bad hair day everyday"
2022
Felt and print on fabric
A large hanging piece with two parts, a needle felted design based off of aesthetical research into Jomon Dogu, and the second a series of lino prints of a figure based off of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu (from Japanese mythology).Â
The objective of the piece is to create a conversation (mostly for myself) regarding my ongoing struggle to understand my cultural status within the environments I find myself in. It's an outcome that embraces both the positives of having a unique racial background while also exploring the insecurities surrounding the lack of racial acceptance within the country I grew up in, largely based off the general view of people like myself as an outsider. Ultimately, whilst the piece is a cathartic release from my anxieties, it is also an exploration into my continuous struggle with alienation and isolation.
