Taking references from neolithic Japanese culture, indigenous Japanese culture, and Shintoism, Hokano-ke Dou was created as a way to imagine a folklore based around the concept of the "Other". As a mixed-race individual growing up in a homogenous society like Japan, my whole existence has been as an "other". Hokano-ke Dou is an imaginary world that allows me to understand emotional and psychological complications of the "other's" experience without fear of judgement. It's a solution to my eternal sense of displacement and yearning for belonging.
